What is EFT Tapping?
More formally referred to as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), and less formally as ‘that weird tapping therapy’, Tapping is an evidence based energy psychology tool used for stress relief, and so much more!
Despite the name, you won’t be free of your emotions. However, by nurturing your body with Tapping, the energy of long held fear, anger and worry can process, and you’ll no longer be a hostage to these emotions and dis-ease.
Human bodies need to release stress, just like animals shake it off, but we tend to power on. And that stored survival stress from unresolved trauma and emotional wounds gets stored in our bodies for ‘a rainy day’. And sometimes it might feel like you’re in a monsoon… getting angry over minor issues, not sleeping well, getting sick, feeling anxious, feeling like you’re not enough, and on it goes. When you use EFT to process the stored stress, you return to your natural state of self-worth bringing more calm, ease and joy to your life. Yes please!
Working with an accredited Advanced EFT practitioner, there are no generic scripts but deep work that is tailored to your specific issues. In our sessions together, you’ll be gently guided through the Tapping process by tapping along with me (you can tap on yourself), and you’ll guide me to make sure the content is on track for you. It’s very much a collaborative approach.
How does EFT Tapping work?
A combination of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology, Tapping combines elements of exposure and cognitive therapy with somatic stimulation. Basically, while stating a problem you want to release and acknowledging the associated feelings, you tap on acupoints around your face and upper body. Simple and effective, the magic is literally in your finger tips!
The somatic element is key as the tapping sends a calming response to the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for the flight, fight or freeze response. Being in fight/ flight/ freeze mode is useful if you are being chased by a hungry kangaroo, but for many people modern life has it switched on more than necessary. And, most people have experienced trauma in some form, from heartbreak to accidents to abuse. If stuck survival stress is not released from your nervous system, stress hormones are running the show and your other systems – digestion, immune, reproductive, endocrine – can be compromised.
Tapping can help regulate the nervous system, bringing increased wellbeing to your physical, emotional and mental health.
What can EFT Tapping be used for?
Although tapping for anxiety is a common use, Tapping is a useful and nurturing tool that can be used effectively for a multitude of issues:

If you like the science, hundreds of clinical studies showing the efficacy of EFT have been undertaken in recent years, many involving Australian researcher Dr Peta Stapleton. A key piece of research published in 2019 showed the following changes to physiological health markers after EFT:
Matrix Reimprinting
Matrix Reimprinting is a Tapping technique giving you the opportunity to revisit old memories and provide comfort for your younger self. By resourcing the younger self with the love and care needed at the time, safe and gentle transformation is possible.
Picture Tapping
Picture Tapping combines Tapping with drawing pictures, and no artistic ability is required! This technique provides gentle and deep access to the subconscious mind with no need for discussion or analysis of an issue. If appropriate, this technique may also be used.
